On the second day you will get to see the mountain gorillas. After breakfast you will be driven to the Kinigi Park headquarters, where you will receive a briefing about the dos and don’ts of gorilla trekking. Together with your group, tracking gear, packed lunch and porter for the backpack (if you want one), you will move into the bamboo forests to search for the endangered primates. The search may take as little as 30 minutes or up to several hours, depending on how deep your gorilla family has moved into the forest in search of water, food and shelter. Once you find the gorillas, enjoy at least one hour interacting with them as they eat, play and tease each other. After taking as many videos and photos as you like, you will make the return hike to your starting point.

In the afternoon, you have the option to head out for a visit to the beautiful twin lakes of Burera and Ruhondo.

Rise very early in the morning and with your cup of coffee embark on a game drive through the Kasenyi trail to catch a glimpse of the early morning and late night hunters. Expect to see lions, jackals, leopards, hippopotami, elephants, hyenas and others.

Return to your lodge mid-morning, relax and have lunch. Later, in the afternoon, engage in a 2 hour boat cruise along the Kazinga channel: enjoying clear views of massive concentrations of hippos, crocodiles, buffalos and various bird species as they all line up along the river banks to drink and bath in the afternoon sunshine.

Upon rising, enjoy your breakfast and assemble at the Kanyanchu park offices for a briefing on the day’s adventure and the chimpanzees in the park. Following which, you will begin the hike in search of the chimpanzees. As you are trekking through the forest you are likely to see several  other primate species (Colobus monkeys, Blue monkeys, Red tailed and Grey cheeked monkeys), as well as various bird species and colorful butterflies. Once you locate the chimps you will enjoy at least one hour interacting with them, observing their behavior while taking photographs and videos.

Have lunch in the wild listening to the birds and sounds of the various animals living in the forest. Following lunch, set out for a guided nature walk to Bigodi swamp – a bird lover’s haven – where you can see many different species of wild birds.

Finally in the evening, enjoy a well deserved dinner at your lodge and put your feet up to relax.
